Uploading a built site

Put a built site up with one command. It stays online when your computer is off.

Upload a folder

npm run buildouicu deploy ./dist

Point it at the folder your build writes: dist for Vite and Astro, out for a Next.js static export, build for Create React App. ouicu uploads it and prints the link. After that, your computer can be off: ouicu serves the site.

What the terminal says on Free
Uploaded 24 of 24 files Live at https://calm-otter-4821.ouicu.app 24 files, 1.2 MB It stays up until 2026-10-11, a week after this upload, on your plan.

Only files ouicu doesn't have yet are uploaded, so uploading the same site again is quick. The guide Share a website without setting up hosting goes through it from the start.

Update a site

Each ouicu deploy without --name makes a new site with a random name. To update a site, deploy again with its name:

ouicu deploy ./dist --name calm-otter-4821

Visitors see the new version as soon as the upload finishes. Until then, they see the old one.

How addresses find files

  • / and /docs/ get their index.html.
  • /about gets about.html, or about/index.html.
  • Any other path gets index.html with --spa. Without it, your 404.html if the site has one, or a page from ouicu saying the page isn't on the site.
  • A live share under the same name wins: while you share at a site's name, visitors see the share.

What gets uploaded

The files a web page is made of: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, source maps, images, fonts, WebAssembly, text and XML. Others, like videos, PDFs and archives, are left out, and the terminal lists them:

Left out /intro.mp4: not part of a web page.

Dot files are left out too, apart from .well-known, and so are node_modules and links.

On every plan, a site holds up to 5,000 files of up to 50 MB each (bigger files are left out), and you can upload 30 times an hour. The command refuses a folder with more than 5,000 files or 1 GB: that is a project, not a build.

When a Free site's 7 days are up, its link stops working; upload again to start over. If you move to Free from a paid plan, your sites get 7 days from then.

Delete a site

On the Shares page, press Delete by the site. The link stops working and its files are deleted. From code, use ouicu.sites.delete(id) in the SDK, or DELETE /api/sites/{id}.
