Names
Every link has a name. Free links get a random one; on Hobby and Pro you can keep a name for each client.
A name is the first part of a link: studiolund in https://studiolund.ouicu.app.
Random names
Without --name, a share or an uploaded site gets a random name, like calm-otter-4821. A share keeps its random name while it reconnects, but each new ouicu share draws a new one. A site keeps its name for as long as it exists.
Reserved names (Hobby and Pro)
A reserved name is yours until you release it, so the link a client bookmarked last month still works today. Reserve a name by using it:
ouicu share 3000 --name studiolundThe same works for uploads: ouicu deploy ./dist --name studiolund. Hobby keeps 3 names, and Pro has no limit. At the limit, ouicu says so when you try a new one.
What a name can be
- 3 to 40 lowercase letters, digits and hyphens.
- It starts and ends with a letter or a digit, with no two hyphens in a row.
- Some names aren't available: ones ouicu uses itself, like
www, apianddocs, and words that phishing pages borrow, like bank and brand names. - A name someone else holds, or uses right now, is taken.
What a name carries
- A password or a list of invited people, set on the Shares page, which holds for every share and upload under the name unless it brings its own. See Who can open a link.
- Its last version, shown while its share is off.
- Custom domains of yours that show it, on Pro.
- One share at a time: a new share under the name replaces the one running.
Release a name
On the Shares page, under Reserved names, press Release by the name. Its password or list of people and its last version go with it, domains that show it pause, and anyone may take the name after that. Release a name only when you no longer need the links you sent with it.
