Custom domains

Show a reserved name at a domain of yours, like preview.yourstudio.com. On Pro.

A custom domain shows one of your reserved names at an address of yours: preview.yourstudio.com shows what studiolund.ouicu.app shows, whether that's a live share, an uploaded site or its last version.

Before you start (Pro)

  • Custom domains come with Pro.
  • You need a reserved name for the domain to show. Reserve one by sharing under it: ouicu share 3000 --name studiolund.
  • Use a subdomain, like preview.yourstudio.com. A domain's own name, like yourstudio.com, can't point at ouicu.
  • You can add up to 5 domains.

Add a domain

  1. On the Domains page, type the domain, pick the name it shows, and press Add domain.
  2. Where your domain's DNS is kept, add the two records the page shows. The TXT record proves the domain is yours; the CNAME sends its visitors to ouicu.
  3. Press Check now, or wait: ouicu looks for the records every hour. Once it finds the TXT record, Cloudflare gets the domain a certificate, usually within minutes of the CNAME being there.

Some DNS hosts want only the part before your own domain as the name, like preview and _ouicu.preview. If your DNS is on Cloudflare, turn its proxy off for the CNAME.

What visitors see

The same as at the name's own link: the live share, the uploaded site or the last version, behind the same password or list of invited people. Links you sent with the name's ouicu.app address keep working too.

What the Domains page says

A domain's status
StatusWhat it means
Waiting for DNS recordsouicu hasn't found the TXT record yet. DNS changes can take a while to show.
Waiting for its certificateThe domain is yours. Cloudflare gets its certificate once the CNAME points at domains.ouicu.app.
LiveThe domain shows your name.
PausedYou left Pro, or you no longer hold the name: pick another of your names for it.

When something is wrong with a record, the page says what, like a CNAME that points somewhere else.

Change or remove a domain

  • With more than one reserved name, choose which one a domain shows on the Domains page.
  • Remove stops the domain showing your previews at once. Then delete its DNS records.
  • The TXT record decides whose a domain is. If another account adds the domain and DNS shows its token, the domain moves to that account.
